Sergio Pérez extends Red Bull contract until 2024

Checo's top five moments as a Bull

Sergio Pérez has signed a two-year contract extension with Red Bull, keeping him at the team until the end of 2024. The 32-year-old Mexican put pen to paper ahead of last weekend's race, giving him some much-needed security for the future.

Horner and Marko hit the brakes

The news of Pérez's contract extension comes as a surprise to some, as it was widely expected that he would be replaced by Pierre Gasly at the end of the season. However, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Helmut Marko have both been impressed with Pérez's performances this season, and have decided to keep him on for the long term.

Marko said: "Sergio has done a great job for us this year. He has been quick, consistent and has scored some important points for the team. We are very happy to have him on board for the next two years."

Horner added: "Sergio has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the team. He is a great driver and a great team player. We are looking forward to working with him for the next two years and beyond."

Pérez has been with Red Bull since 2021, and has scored four podiums for the team. He is currently fifth in the drivers' standings, just 13 points behind teammate Max Verstappen.
